Destiny publisher Activision does have a history with player trading systems, as the company’s genre-defining MMO World of Warcraft has had such a system for years now. Whether Destiny would let you trade items has been a question asked about the first-person shooter for some time. Writing on Bungie. You can, however, trade items between your various characters. We want you to earn ‚em,“ community chief David „Deej“ Dague said. Once you earn them, the various Guardians under your account will be able to trade them, but weapons belong to the players who acquire them through action and bravery.
There have also been murmurings about Destiny offering another sub-class, but Bungie poured cold water on the idea. As Eurogamer reported earlier this year, each of Destiny’s three classes – Hunter, Warlock and Titan – have two „focuses“, which act as subclasses. For example, the Titan begins the game with the Striker focus. Its super is called Fist of Havoc, which is a high damage melee AOE attack.
But you can also unlock the tanky Defender focus, which is based around the Void Barrier super like the Bubble Shield from Halo. Destiny will launch with two focuses per class for a total of six, but you’ll have to play through your Guardian’s progression to unlock them all. We have yet to even let you try a second one.

Will Bungie ever introduce a player trading system for items in Destiny? It’s a question that Bungie is continually asked, including during yesterday’s special livestream for upcoming expansion House of Wolves. Destiny creative director Christopher Barrett responded by saying that, although it’s not a feature he’d personally like to see in Destiny, it’s not been ruled out for sometime down the road. Barrett said people have been asking about a Destiny trading system „since the beginning of time.
Destiny community member Gothalion said a item trading system could diminish the appeal of Destiny’s endgame if players could freely swap items between one another. Barrett said he agreed. But while he wouldn’t personally like to see player trading in Destiny, he says the team internally at Bungie is divided on the subject, noting that the studio’s „investment designers“ continue to explore the possibility. Personally, I’d prefer not to have player trading.
But you’ll get different opinions across the entire team. Even though there’s still a few days left before the launch of Destiny — on current-gen and last-gen platforms — developer Bungie seems pretty adamant about letting the game speak for itself. They’ve done their due diligence, even releasing a launch trailer for the game and teasing a few previously unknown features and modes, and now they want the game to speak for itself on September 9th. Since Destiny is all about discovery, Bungie prefers that gamers learn the ins and outs of their upcoming game first hand.
That doesn’t mean that Bungie can’t answer a question here or there, however; in fact, the devs are still regularly engaging with fans where possible, more specifically in their regular weekly updates. This week’s Bungie update, for example, included confirmation that a feature many hoped would be in the game will not be in Destiny at launch. While many gamers had hoped that they might be able to trade or swap in-game items for Destiny , Bungie has confirmed that no such feature will be available.
They believe that the armor, weapons, and trinkets that players unlock along the way are the hard earned spoils of war, and therefore should be treasured by their original owners. In Bungie’s mind, every unlocked item carries a story, and they want players to think back on those adventures when they look at a specific helmet, cape or sniper rifle.
To us, that sounds like Bungie simply trying to justify why a trading feature isn’t in the game, but it’s a nice sentiment nonetheless. As for swapping irons in the Tower? You should be able to tell a badass story for every sweet jewel in your arsenal.

The development team at Bungie has been busy with the launch of the most recent expansion for Destiny, but it seems that the company also has long-term plans linked to a new trademark called Eververse, which is probably related to its current video game project. The United States Trademark and Patent Office is not offering any sort of details about the concept that the company is working on, but the registration cover video game software, toys, promotional materials and other elements linked to it.
Bungie has trademarked both the name in its simple form and something called the Eververse Trading Company. It’s unclear when the new names will be used by the studio or if they are linked to its current Destiny work or to something that’s farther in the future. Given that the company has said that it will work with Activision to offer long-term support for the social shooter, the new concept is probably linked to a future expansion.
The trading part of the name suggests that Bungie might be working on a way to allow players to trade items and maybe other elements of the game with each other in a controlled environment. Fans have been requesting such a feature ever since Destiny was first launched, but the company has said that at the moment such a mechanics is not linked to the core of the title. The logo used for Eververse also seems linked to the style used for the shooter.
A set of rumors are saying that The Taken King is the name that Bungie is using for the next big content drop for the video game, which is expected to arrive before the end of the year on all platforms. The leaks are suggesting that an entirely new environment will be introduced to the shooter for the first time since it was launched.

You should only be able to trade similar items. For example, you could only trade exotic for exotic. Legendaries should have more categorization. Like you shouldn’t be able to trade Vault of Glass armor for vanguard armor. You should only be able to trade vanguard gear for vanguard gear, PoE gear for PoE gear, and so forth. In Destiny‘s brave new world, Guardians won’t quite be able to trade with each other on launch, though trading amongst your own characters will be a possibility, as we learned earlier.. According to developer Bungie, trading between players will eventually happen, but at a later date, once the studio has really figured out Destiny’s economy and security measures within the consoles.
